Mitra-The Friend: Differently Abled Students' Cell
As part of an effort to promote a more positive and respectful approach to discuss and address the needs and rights of students with disabilities, Sree Sankara College has constituted a Differently abled students cell named as Mitra - The Friend. The various activities of Mitra are briefly explained below.
Visit To Maya Balakrishnan, Specially Abled and State Government literature prize winner Poet
Mitra: The Friend, Cell for the Specially Abled, Sree Sankara College, Kalady visited Maya Balakrishnan, specially abled writer, residing at Nayathode on 29-07-2022. The team included eight students, one Parent and five teachers. Maya Balakrishnan interacted with the specially abled students of our college and motivated them to realize that they also have an identity and they should be treated with dignity and compassion. She motivated them “to keep fighting and remain hopeful” and donated her books to the college library. One of her books, donated to our library was Naalam viralil Viriyunna Maya. Mitra honoured her by handing over a momento to cherish memories of our visit.
Celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities
As part of celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 09-12-2022 our cell honored two of our former students Dr Harikrishnan G, Assistant Professor, Department of History, KKTM Government College, Pullut, Kodungallur and Sudhan K P, PGT English, Kendriya Vidyalaya Kadavanthara, General Secretary, National Federation of the Blind, Kerala Branch (NFB). The guests inaugurated the Programme and offered their support for the students. Sarath Padipura from Freedom on Wheels, donated a wheel chair to our college. The programme was was attended by specially abled students and other students of our college. Our specially abled students interacted with our former students.
Visit to Sachin, Wheel chair cricketer from Kalady
Mitra cell members visited Sachin, a specially abled wheelchair cricketer from Kalady at his residence on 22-12-2022. He was selected for the Kerala team of Specially abled wheelchair cricket competition held at Odisha. We had an interaction with Sachin sharing his difficult situations and experiences. He motivated our students by giving his inspiring words. Now he got selection in the national team. He assured help for those students who are interested in sports.
