National webinar on Stem Cells as a Model to Study Parkinson

Department of Biochemistry, Sree Sankara College, Kalady is organizing a national webinar on Stem cells as a model to study Parkinson’s Disease. Dr. Renjitha Gopurappilly, India Alliance (DBT-Wellcome Trust) Early Career Fellow from National Center for Biological Sciences, TIFR, Bangalore is the resource person of webinar. Parkinson’s disease is a one of the progressive degenerative disorders seen in elder population characterized by difficulty in movement and coordination. The statistics says that the number of patients with neurodegenerative disorders like Dementia, Alzheimers disease, Parkinson’s disease are increasing at a rate one per 3 seconds. These conditions usually establish in a progressive manner and becomes more evident at an age above 60 in general. At the same time, it’s a fact that these situations cannot be reverted back to normal but studies says that the progression of the disease can be controlled to a great extent. The session focusses to provide the students a clear idea regarding the applications of stem cell culture systems to study the development and progression of Parkinson’s disease using pluripotent stem cells as model system
