BIOGEN - 2019



Department of Biochemistry organized a one day national seminar BIOGEN-2019 on a theme "Bioactive Compounds from Natural Resources: Emerging Trends and Challenges" in association with Department of Microbiology and Department of Biotechnology on 13 December 2019. The seminar was supported by Sree Sankara Management Aid for Research and Transformation (SMART) 2019-20 and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Sree Sankara College, Kalady. The seminar was inaugurated by the Sri C P Jaisankar, Chief Operations Officer, Adi Sankara Group of Institutions. The main focus of the seminar was to enlight the academic community about the scope of various natural products such as marine natural products (MNPs), phytochemicals, anti-microbial peptides (AMPs), etc in various fields. Three talks were included in the seminar. Dr. T Citarasu, Associate Professor, Centre for Marine Science and Technology, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Rajakkamangalam,  Kanyakumari District, Tamilnadu, India, delevered a talk on the topic "Bioprospecting of Marine Natural Products and Their Health Benefits". Dr. B Jebasingh, Associate Professor, Medicinal Organic Chemistry, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India had given a detailed lecture on "Insights into the wonders of bioactive compounds and isolation using separation technology: See into sea. Dr. Sajeevan T P gave a deep insight on the topic Challenges, opportunities and innovations in the marine drug discovery"
