The Department of Microbiology organised an induction programme for newly admitted PG students to familiarise them with the Department’s academic and research environments, opportunities, and facilities—the session, enriched by the insights of Dr. Mohan S, Rtd. Professor and HOD, Sree Sankara College, Kalady, provided a comprehensive overview of the program’s scope, expectations, and the evolving landscape of microbiology. The program was chaired by the esteemed principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Anilkumar. M. Dr. Sumi Mary George, Head of the Department of Microbiology, addressed the students and welcomed them to the program. A talk of gratitude was delivered by Dr. Manjula R, Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology.
A central tenet of the program, as emphasized by the resource person, is the cultivation of a questioning spirit. The ability to interrogate existing knowledge and formulate novel inquiries is indispensable for a microbiologist. This intellectual curiosity, coupled with a rigorous scientific approach, was positioned as the cornerstone of successful research and innovation. Another pivotal theme was the symbiotic relationship between humans and artificial intelligence (AI). The resource person elucidated how AI can be a potent ally in data analysis, pattern recognition, and predictive modelling. However, it was underscored that AI remains a tool to be wielded by human intellect, rather than a replacement for it. The program aims to equip students with the skills to effectively harness AI while maintaining critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
