The associations “Helix” of the Department of Biochemistry and “Microxia” of the Department of Microbiology organized a food fest titled “Festival de Comida” on 25th September 2024 with the aim of supporting the upliftment of Wayanad. The event turned out to be a great success and stood as a fine example of collective effort by both departments. The programme was inaugurated by the Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Anilkumar M, at 10:30 a.m., with his blessings and support.
A wide variety of food items were arranged by both departments, showcasing the rich culinary diversity of Kerala. The festival featured an extensive selection of dishes from different regions of the state, allowing guests to enjoy everything from the coastal specialties of Malabar to the unique flavours of Central Kerala and the bold, spicy cuisine of the southern region. Each stall presented authentic Kerala dishes, offering visitors a delightful journey through the state’s culinary heritage.
Along with food, the event also celebrated art and creativity through activities such as mehndi, face painting, and nail art. These stalls attracted a large number of participants who were eager to express their personal style. The intricate mehndi designs, vibrant face paintings, and creative nail art added colour and excitement to the festival, highlighting local talent and enhancing the overall cultural experience.
The primary objective of the programme was to contribute to the rebuilding of Wayanad, and the profits generated from the food fest were donated for this cause. This act reflected a strong sense of social responsibility and community support among the students and faculty. The event also demonstrated effective collaboration between the two departments, emphasizing teamwork and unity.
Through active participation in organizing and managing the fest, students developed important skills such as leadership, communication, and coordination. The programme successfully blended culture, cuisine, creativity, and social commitment, creating an engaging and meaningful experience for everyone involved. The event concluded at around 3:30 p.m., marking the successful completion of a vibrant and purposeful initiative. The handing over of funds to the charitable cause was a fulfilling moment, fostering a sense of gratitude and achievement among all participants.
