Department of Biochemistry facilitated a hands-on workshop on ‘Computational Tools In Drug Designing’ under the guidance of Dr. Showmy K S, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany & Computational Biology, St. Aloysius College, Elthuruthu, Thrissur. The programme was held at Computer Lab, Sree Sankara College, on 06 March 2024, under the financial support of Sree Sankara College IQAC SMART SCHEME. The programme started at 10.00 AM with the prayer song by Ms. Sneha Francis, II MSc Biochemistry student. Ms. Shaina, I MSc Biochemistry student delivered the welcome address. Roufath, I MSc Biochemistry student gave a brief introduction about the resource person. The venue was then handed over to Dr. Showmy for the providing practical experience in utilizing computational tools for drug discovery and design to the students. The session was concluded by the vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Agnihotri V S, I MSc Biochemistry student.
The hands-on workshop on ‘Computational Tools In Drug Designing’ provided a comprehensive exploration into the practical experience in utilizing computational tools for drug discovery and design. The workshop aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in the field of pharmaceutical research. The workshop commenced with an overview of computational tools commonly used in drug designing, including molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulations, and quantitative structureactivity relationship (QSAR) analysis. Participants were introduced to various software packages and online platforms available for molecular modeling and virtual screening. The participants had the opportunity to work with the computational tools under the guidance of the experienced instructor. Through interactive exercises and case studies, attendees gained practical insights into molecular docking techniques, ligand-receptor interactions, and structure-based drug design principles.
Outcome of the Programme
- Students developed hands-on proficiency in using computational tools for drug designing
- The workshop ignited enthusiasm and passion among participants for computational drug design.
The workshop fostered collaboration and knowledge exchange among students, paving the way for future advancements in pharmaceutical research.
