An orientation programme for newly enrolled MSc Biochemistry students was organized on 3rd September 2024 by “The Helix,” the association of the Department of Biochemistry. The session aimed to familiarize students with the academic environment, expectations, and future opportunities in the field of biochemistry. The programme was graced by Dr. Valsa A K, retired Associate Professor and Head of the Postgraduate Research Department of Microbiology, as the chief guest.
Dr. Valsa A K delivered an insightful and engaging lecture on the current trends in biochemistry, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the subject’s evolving landscape. She highlighted emerging areas such as molecular diagnostics, biotechnology innovations, and omics-based research, emphasizing their growing relevance in modern science. The speaker also elaborated on the wide scope of biochemistry in healthcare, industry, and environmental science, helping students appreciate the significance of their chosen field.
Further, she provided a clear overview of the academic expectations in the MSc Biochemistry programme, including course structure, laboratory skills, research components, and desired learning outcomes. Students were introduced to various career opportunities available after the course, such as roles in clinical laboratories, pharmaceutical industries, biotechnology firms, teaching, and research institutions.
